CLEMSON, S.C. — Shortstop Jacob Hinderleider went 5 for 5 and Cam Cannarella's deep sacrifice fly to the left-field wall produced the game-winning run as Clemson beat Coastal Carolina 4-3 on Saturday in the Clemson Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

Clemson's Alden Mathes started the top of ninth getting hit by a pitch. Hinderleider followed with a single to left advancing Mathes to third. Cannarella, whose shot appeared to be leaving the park, drove in Mathes on the first pitch he saw.

Austin Gordon entered in relief in the bottom of the ninth, striking out the Chanticleers' first two batters and getting the third to fly out to left to end it. Clemson (43-14) — which never trailed — is 2-0 for the first time in a regional since 2011.

Coastal Carolina's Zack Beach tied it at 3-all in the seventh when the lefty crushed the ball well past the right-field wall. Clemson took a 3-2 lead in the sixth when Cannarella singled up the middle, scoring Hinderleider, who had reached base with a double to left.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Eli Serrano III and Garrett Pennington combined for five runs, five hits, and three home runs to lead host North Carolina State past South Carolina 6-4 on Saturday night to advance to the championship game of the Raleigh Regional.

N.C. State (35-20), the No. 10 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, will play the James Madison-South Carolina winner in the regional championship on Sunday.

Serrano finished 3 for 5. Pennington hit two early home runs and later walked twice.

Serrano's solo homer gave the Wolfpack a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Dylan Brewer, who hit a solo home run in the fifth, answered for the Gameco*cks with a two-run home run in the seventh that tied it 4-4.

Serrano singled and eventually scored in the seventh. Matt Heavner led off the eighth for the Wolfpack with a bunt single and advanced to second on Serrano’s ground out. Pennington was intentionally walked, and Heavner scored on a throwing error by catcher Dalton Reeves to end the scoring.

The Wolfpack's Derrick Smith gave up one hit while striking out four in 1 2/3 innings for his sixth save.

Connor McCreery pitched just 1/3 inning in the seventh for South Carolina (37-24), but gave up one run for the loss.

Wofford 5

Long Island 2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Zac Cowan threw six shutout innings and struck out six and Wofford got its first program win in the NCAA Tournament beating Long Island 5-2 in the Chapel Hill Regional on Saturday.

Wofford (42-19) will play Sunday against the loser of Saturday night’s game between North Carolina and defending national champion LSU (41-21).

Long Island (33-25) failed to score with seven runners in scoring position and batted 0 for 7 in those situations. After Cowan's departure with a 4-0 lead, Champ Davis pitched three innings for the Terriers to get the save.

Andrew Mannelly had an RBI double and Jack Renwick a sacrifice fly in a three-run sixth to give Wofford a 4-0 advantage. Daniel Jackson made it 5-2 with a single in the seventh.

Wofford bounced back from a heartbreaking loss in its first game. The Terriers led 3-1 against defending champion LSU in the eighth inning Friday night but lost, 4-3, on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth.

Wofford's only previous trip to the NCAA Tournament was in 2007, when they won their first Southern Conference championship. They went to the Raleigh Regional and lost to South Carolina and N.C. State.
