Michael from Lifeline came to our offices to do a lunch and learn on men’s mental health as part of our wellbeing events for mental health awareness week. We really loved having him there and would recommend this session!

May is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth and brings light to the sometimes-uncomfortable topic of mental health. It is important to know that it is okay to not be okay. At Barnhill, we want to reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues, especially within the industry. We have resources available to those who may be struggling or know someone who may be struggling.Did you know? Through our health insurance, Telehealth is available for those who need to see a doctor more quickly, from home or on the go. Telehealth also includes behavioral health, which is an important benefit to use when needed. This includes for addictions, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship issues and more.Join NAMI's Mental Health Awareness Month campaign and let's break the stigma together. #TakeAMentalHealthMoment

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and as your licensed insurance broker, I want to remind everyone of the importance of mental well-being in our daily lives and professions. 🌿Mental health is as crucial as physical health, yet often not as visible. Let’s break the stigma by openly discussing and addressing mental health issues. Remember, seeking help and supporting each other are signs of strength, not weakness. This month, I encourage you to check in on your mental health and utilize resources available to you.Your well-being is your greatest asset, and ensuring you have the right support, including mental health benefits, is essential. If you have questions about how your insurance can support your mental health needs, feel free to reach out. Let's prioritize our mental health not just this month, but every day. 💚#MentalHealthAwareness #BreakTheStigma

Capitalist medicine has its faults and conflicts of interest. It's about time we recognize credible challengers to the economic status quo. Considering the state of the world, with its pervasive health disparities and overmedicated/brain-injured children, the old-money way of doing things clearly isn't working for us. In the interim, the ICD-11 offers a credible alternative to the DSM. #trauma #traumarecovery #traumainformed #childdevelopment #brainhealthmatters #healthcare #division #stratification #profitmargins

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) is the book mental health practitioners must use to diagnose clients to receive payment from a client's insurance. In the U.S., to receive mental health treatment using your health insurance, you must be diagnosed with one of the mental health disorders in the DSM. The problem is that many people require the care of a specialist, psychologist, or psychiatrist due to symptoms caused by trauma, not "mental illness."These symptoms are natural, albeit disturbing, trauma responses, NOT something inherently wrong with our brains. The person is not sick, ill, or disordered. They are coping with trauma. For many of these people, pathologizing their symptoms brings a deep sense of shame and stigma, further exacerbating their mental health struggles. Diagnosis often adds more trauma to trauma.I know some of you will disagree. We are all entitled to our opinions. I believe many DSM diagnoses are based on loose criteria made by a group of humans instead of hard facts. AT THE VERY LEAST, the DSM needs a complete overhaul and should be a trauma-informed manual. To learn more about trauma-informed care, subscribe to my free newsletter at BethTyson.com.#psychology #mentalhealth #psychotherapy #traumainformed
